Much Ado About Nothing

Much Ado About Nothing, the Masques' 2010 fall show, is set in Messina where Don Pedro's troops, having just returned from war, are invited by Leonato, the governor of Messina, to stay for a month. Claudio, a young soldier, has become smitten with Leonato's daughter Hero. Don Pedro offers to woo Hero for Claudio. Leonato's niece Beatrice anticipates the return of another soldier, Benedick, with whom she has engaged in a "merry war" of words. In the meantime, Don Pedro's half-brother Don John, jealous of his brother's high regard for Claudio, decides to use the occasion of Claudio's impending marriage to Hero as an opportunity to create mischief. Messina's police force is a sorry one, headed by the dubious Dogberry. He and his motley deputies must root out any wrongdoing. And that is the world of Shakespeare's comedy Much Ado About Nothing!
